In this recipe, we will share a straightforward and simple yet delicious hamburger recipe that will elevate your grilling skills and make every gathering memorable.
Choosing the Right Meat
The secret to any great hamburger starts with the meat. It is best to select lean ground beef—about 2 lbs is ideal for our recipe. Using leaner beef means less excess grease while still savoring rich flavors. For example, ground beef that is 96% lean and 4% fat is the ideal choice, but anything thats under 85% Lean and 15% fat will work. The leaner the better!
It is essential to pick high-quality beef. Fresh ground beef should have a vibrant red color and a clean, inviting smell.
The Perfect Seasoning Mix
Seasoning is crucial for enhancing the burger’s natural flavors.
In a bowl combine the following spices to create a savory mix:
2 tsp garlic powder
2 tsp onion powder
1 tbsp salt
1/2 tbsp pepper
Once mixed, gently combine the spices with the meat without overworking it, as this can lead to tough burgers.
Shaping the Patties
Divide the seasoned ground beef into eight portions, aiming for patties about 1/4 lb each. For even cooking, make the center of each patty thinner and the edges slightly thicker. This method helps prevent puffing during grilling.
Creating a small indentation in the center of each patty is helpful, as it keeps the burgers flat while cooking. Taking your time with this step is key.
Prepping the Grill
Before grilling, preheat your grill to medium-high heat. If using charcoal, ensure the coals are evenly distributed. For gas grills, let it settle into a consistent heat.
Clean the grill grates with a brush and lightly oil them to prevent sticking. A well-prepared grill is essential for achieving those coveted grill marks and locking in the juiciness of your burgers.
The Grilling Process
Place your patties on the grill and cook them for about 5 minutes on one side. When you flip them, continue grilling for another 5 minutes. This timing allows the interior to stay juicy while achieving a perfect cook. Remember that cooking times might vary based on your grill, the thickness of the patties, and your doneness preference, so adjust as needed.
